Software Comparison

SAM vs Gannet

Both are EASA-focused aviation software products built in the Nordic market. The key difference is scope: Gannet covers airworthiness management for smaller operators, while SAM covers the full cycle from airworthiness through MRO and supply chain in a single platform.

SAM by ASA Software

Developed in Denmark since 1988, SAM is an integrated CAMO and Part-145 MRO platform for small and mid-sized aviation organisations. It runs on a concurrent user pricing model where aircraft count doesn't change the price, with implementations typically completed in weeks. Used by 60+ operators across Europe, Africa, and Asia.

Gannet by Lundin

Gannet is a Norwegian aviation software product developed by Lundin Systems, focused primarily on airworthiness management and CAMO workflows. It is designed for smaller operators and flying clubs running under EASA Part-M. Functionality is centred on airworthiness control rather than full MRO or supply chain management.

Where SAM has the edge

Integrated MRO

SAM covers both CAMO and full Part-145 MRO in a single platform. Gannet is focused on airworthiness and CAMO workflows: maintenance execution and work order management are not part of its core offering.

Supply chain and inventory

SAM includes purchasing, parts inventory, and supplier management as integrated modules. Gannet does not cover supply chain operations, requiring a separate system for parts and procurement.

Broader operator types

SAM supports general aviation, helicopters, commercial aircraft, and defence operations in one system. Gannet is primarily suited to smaller general aviation operators and flying clubs under Part-M.

Where SAM may not be the right fit

Large-scale airline operations

SAM is built for small and mid-sized operators. If you are managing a large fleet across multiple bases, a platform designed for enterprise-scale throughput will likely serve you better.

Multi-hub MRO networks

SAM works well for single-base and small Part-145 organisations. Complex multi-hub maintenance networks with tight cross-base scheduling requirements may outgrow what SAM offers today.

Enterprise ERP integration

SAM focuses on the maintenance and airworthiness side of operations. If your organisation needs native integration with SAP, Oracle, or similar ERP systems, you will need to look elsewhere or build a custom bridge.

No 24/7 technical support

SAM support operates during business hours. If your operation requires around-the-clock technical assistance (for example, if you run shifts across multiple time zones), a platform with a global support organisation may be a better fit.
